Fatal northwest Minnesota tornado reached EF-4 category, NWS says

The tornado that killed one person as it made its way across northwest Minnesota Wednesday reach the EF-4 category, according to the National Weather Service.

According to a storm report, the tornado originally touched down in northern Grant County.

The storm intensified as it then moved into Otter Tail County.

Man killed in western Minnesota tornado identified

NWS says the storm reach 170 mph and went for nine miles.

The weather service says three farmsteads were hit, and one of those farmhouses was flattened.

Two people were injured during the storm, and one was killed. Authorities identified the man who was killed as 30-year-old Seth Nelson.
