Victim of fatal East Bethel crash involving motorcycle identified
UPDATE: The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday identified the victim of the crash as 64-year-old Michael Thomas McCauley, of East Bethel.
The crash remains under investigation.
A portion of southbound Highway 65 is closed in East Bethel due to fatal crash, according to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say the crash happened at Viking Boulevard at 11:17 a.m. Wednesday.
Drivers are asked to use an alternative route.
According to the sheriff’s office, preliminary information indicates a Dodge flatbed pickup truck towing a trailer was traveling east when it crashed into a southbound Harley Davidson motorcycle, ejecting the motorcyclist.
Lifesaving efforts were attempted but the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff’s office identified the motorcyclist as a 65-year-old Zimmerman man. His name is expected to be released at a later time.
Authorities said the driver of the truck is cooperating with law enforcement.
