Teenager, juvenile dead after Polk County crash

UPDATE: The teenage driver in this incident has died as a result of their injuries. The initial story follows below.


A child has died and a teenage driver is seriously injured from a one-vehicle crash Friday morning in Polk County, Wisconsin.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a report of a rollover crash at 7:41 a.m. Friday on 220th Street a half mile south of Highway 8 in St. Croix Falls.

According to the crash report, an SUV headed northbound on 220th Street lost control in icy conditions and went off the road and into a ditch. The vehicle rolled over and hit several trees before coming to a stop.

A juvenile passenger died from injuries, and the teenage driver was airlifted to Regions Hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries.

Both occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of this crash, according to the crash report.

The identities of those involved in the crash are being withheld and will be released at a later date. The crash remains under investigation.
