Motorcyclist in critical condition after colliding with deer near Bethel

A motorcyclist is in critical condition Monday after hitting a deer in rural Anoka County.

The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office reports that just before 1 a.m., the St. Francis Police Department, Bethel Fire Department and Allina EMS responded to the 24200 block of University Avenue NE after receiving a report of a person lying in the middle of the road.

According to officials, a preliminary investigation revealed a 41-year-old man from Isanti was driving a motorcycle north on University Avenue NE when he collided with a deer in the road. The man was not wearing a helmet, officials said.

The motorcyclist was conscious when authorities arrived at the scene and was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident.
