Metro Transit: SUV collides with light rail train in St. Paul, eastbound service delayed

Light rail delays were reported Thursday due to a collision.

According to Metro Transit, the collision affected the Green Line train departing Westgate Station at 8:19 a.m.

A 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS crew at the scene reported the collision was between an SUV and a light rail train at Cromwell and University avenues.

The crew at the scene reported damage appeared to be minor.

Metro Transit reported that an initial investigation revealed the SUV made an illegal turn into the light rail train. The SUV driver was taken to Regions Hospital as a precaution. Metro Transit also stated there were no injuries reported on the train.

Eastbound trips were delayed about 20 minutes and affected stops included:

  • Raymond Avenue Station
  • Fairview Avenue Station
  • Snelling Avenue Station
  • Hamline Avenue Station
  • Lexington Parkway Station
  • Victoria Street Station
  • Dale Street Station
  • Western Avenue Station
  • Capitol / Rice Street Station
  • Robert Street Station
  • 10th Street Station
  • Central Station
  • Union Depot Station
