Lake City firefighter dies in crash; residents asked to switch porch lights to red in his honor

A Lake City firefighter died in the hospital on Tuesday after he was involved in a single-vehicle crash.

The Lake City Fire Department said emergency responders pulled firefighter Clayton Brandt from a vehicle after a crash just after midnight on Tuesday. He was rushed to Mayo Clinic in Lake City before being airlifted to Mayo Clinic St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

He was taken off life support at 7:18 p.m. Tuesday and died shortly afterward, the department said.

To honor Brandt’s memory, the Lake City Fire Department is asking residents to install red porch lights.
