It’s happening again: Interstate 94 is closing in Minneapolis for the second weekend in a row as part of a resurfacing project.

Last weekend, the eastbound lanes shut down between I-35W and Highway 280.

I-94 closes in Minneapolis this weekend, along with the historic 3rd Avenue Bridge

This weekend, the westbound side will close. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) says crews will start with closing the ramps leading to I-94.

"We’re going to start closing ramps at 8 (p.m.) and then at 10 (p.m.), we’re going to shut down the highway," MnDOT spokesperson Dave Aeikens said. "And then it will stay closed until 4 a.m. Monday."

Drivers will be detoured to I-35E, Highway 36 and I-35W.

Looking ahead to next weekend, both directions of I-94 will close from I-35W to Highway 280.
