We’re heading toward the first weekend in October, and while the temperatures are a little lower, there’s still plenty of road construction.

Interstate I-35W is closing in both directions this weekend from I-94 to Highway 62.

I-35W closure in Minneapolis expected Oct. 2-5

MnDOT says crews will be doing some miscellaneous work including paving the road, moving barriers, and installing overhead signs. The northbound lanes will shut down at 10 p.m. Friday, while the southbound closure will hold off until 5 a.m. Saturday.

All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.

The detour takes you to Highway 62, Highway 100, I-394. You can also try using Hiawatha Avenue.

Some of the work will start Friday morning. Starting at 10 a.m., the right lane will close on northbound I-35W, bringing the road down to two lanes between 46th Street and I-94 until 5 a.m. Monday.

The work is related to the larger I-35W Downtown to the Crosstown Project.

If you’re traveling near the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport, the ramp from I-494 westbound to Highway 5 eastbound is closing this weekend too. Crews will shut down the ramp starting at 8 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.
