Erratic driver attempts to slam into Eagan Police squad, taken into custody
Early Thursday morning, a driver allegedly attempted to ram his vehicle into an Eagan Police Department squad car and was taken into custody.
According to police, at 12:39 a.m., officers received a call reporting an erratic driver in the area of Johnny Cake Road. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, which didn’t have license plates on it, a pursuit then occurred as the suspect drove onto Interstate 35E.
Later, the vehicle went down a hill off 35E at Cliff Road and hit some trees and then a guard rail. The vehicle was eventually pinned by police, according to authorities.
The suspect, identified as Charles Myers, then allegedly tried to ram an officer’s squad vehicle. The officer was not injured in the incident.
After police surrounded the vehicle, the suspect refused to show his hands. Officers then put tear gas in the vehicle, which then made the suspect exit the vehicle. He was then taken into custody.
Myers was booked in Dakota County Jail under suspicion of DWI after he refused a sobriety test. The suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment briefly before being booked.
