Driver killed after getting out of car in Benton County
A driver who got out of their vehicle was struck by oncoming traffic and killed Tuesday morning in rural Benton County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Around 6:32 a.m., a Dodge Avenger headed eastbound on Highway 10 crashed into the trees on the side of the road at Burton Place in Watab Township, Minnesota, just north of St. Cloud. The driver, a 33-year-old man from Sartell, Minnesota, then got out of the vehicle and started crossing the highway on foot, the crash report stated.
A Chrysler Town and Country traveling in the left lane of eastbound Highway 10 struck the driver and was then rear-ended by a Hyundai Santa Fe, according to the State Patrol. The roads were dry at the time of the crash.
The man who was crossing the road was pronounced deceased. His identity will be released later Wednesday morning. None of the occupants in the Chrysler or the Hyundai was injured.
