Ambulance, car collide in St. Cloud, 6 taken to hospital

Four people were taken to a hospital and two more suffered minor injuries after a car collided with an ambulance in St. Cloud early Sunday morning.

St. Cloud police said officers were called to the intersection of Ninth Avenue and University Drive at 12:25 a.m.

Preliminary information indicates a Mayo Clinic ambulance was traveling north on Ninth Avenue with activated lights and sirens on their way to a call when a 2011 Hyundai Elantra traveling east on University Drive collided with the ambulance. The ambulance didn’t have a patient at the time.

The driver and passenger in the ambulance were treated for minor injuries at a hospital.

The 25-year-old driver of the Hyundai suffered life-threatening injuries while his three passengers all suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said. All four were taken by ambulance to a hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
