3rd Avenue bridge to close Monday until late 2022

A facelift for a landmark that spans the Mississippi River into downtown Minneapolis will kick into high gear next week.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is shutting down the Third Avenue bridge for nearly two years, starting next Monday.

Crews will be replacing the road surface, improving accessibility, and repairing the historic features on the 102-year-old bridge.

Vehicles will be detoured to Hennepin and First avenues until the work is complete in November 2022.
