Wrong-way driver leads to head-on collision in south Minneapolis; impairment suspected

Officials were at the scene of a head-on collision early Thursday in south Minneapolis.

KSTP Traffic Reporter Josie Smith said she received reports a vehicle was traveling north in the southbound lane from the 60th Street ramp onto Interstate 35W just before 3 a.m.

Both drivers were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A third vehicle was also hit after the initial crash but that driver wasn’t injured.

The driver of the wrong-way vehicle showed signs of impairment and was taken to Hennepin County Jail on suspicion of criminal vehicular operation, the State Patrol said.

An investigation remains active.
