Wright County Sheriff squad car strikes, kills pedestrian while responding to medical emergency

Thursday evening, a pedestrian was fatally hit by a Wright County Sheriff’s Office vehicle that was responding to a medical emergency, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Harold Henry Welter, 84, was struck and killed in a driveway in the 400 block of Main Street North in St. Michael by a 2018 Ford Explorer. Welter died at a Maple Grove emergency room.
The deputy has been identified as 37-year-old Dustin Hatzenbeller of Otsego.
The roads were snowy and icy at the time of the incident, according to a crash report.
Neither Welter nor the driver was under the influence of alcohol, and the deputy was uninjured.
