Woman found dead at residence, Crow Wing County man arrested

Officers responded to a residence on a report of several gunshots heard in Crow Wing County Thursday night and found a woman who was pronounced dead inside.

According to the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office, at about 11:04 p.m. Thursday, the county dispatch center received a shooting complaint along County Road 4 in Lake Edward Township. The caller reported "several gunshots" were heard near a residence in the area.

When deputies and other officers responded to the area, they found a man armed with a rifle and a handgun. Deputies negotiated for nearly two hours with the suspect before he eventually put his weapons down. The suspect was arrested.

While searching the property, police found a woman’s body in a cabin. Authorities noted she may have died from an apparent gunshot wound.

The incident remains under investigation, with no formal charges filed as of early Friday afternoon.
