A Willmar police officer suffered serious injuries and another person died in an incident early Friday morning.

According to a press release from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), Willmar police responded to a 911 call of a domestic incident on the 800 block of Mary Avenue SE at about 5:40 a.m.

When officers arrived, they encountered a male. At one point during the incident, an officer suffered multiple knife wounds. The officer was airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital and is in stable condition. The BCA said the officer is expected to survive.

During the encounter, an officer discharged a Taser, according to the release. The BCA is currently determining whether any officer discharged a firearm. It's still unclear whether the subject was struck by either the Taser or any possible gunfire.

The subject was pronounced dead at the scene. The Midwest Medical Examiner's Office is working to determine the manner and cause of death as well as formal identification of the subject.

A woman at the home was also injured during the encounter, according to the BCA. She was treated and released from Carris Health-Rice Memorial Hospital.
