Willernie community groups buy woman a new scooter

An east metro community is rallying around one of its own.
After decades of pouring her life into the people of Willernie, Gemma Barry is receiving a gift that will help her get around the town she loves.
“Everything been coming back to me,” Barry said. “I’m so fortunate.”
The American Legion Auxiliary and Good Neighbor Club raised money to buy Barry a new scooter.
“It’s exciting,” Barry said. “I couldn’t believe they were going to do this. It’s tremendous.”

Barry, who doesn’t drive and needs the scooter to get around town, calls her new scooter “Gemma’s Harley.”
