While inspecting deer crash damage, Stearns County man hit, killed

A Clearwater man died after a crash in rural Stearns County Monday morning.

Officials said the fatal crash happened after Donald Zwilling, 56, appeared to have hit a deer on County Road 45 near Lynden Township.

Zwilling is believed to have been inspecting the damage at the front of his truck when a second truck collided with his truck.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says Zwilling was pinned under his own truck and died at the scene.

The driver of the second truck had minor injuries and was not believed to be impaired at the time.

The Minnesota State Patrol was called to help with reconstruction as the investigation into the crash continues.
