All westbound lanes of Interstate 94 will be closed near the Minnesota State Capitol starting Friday evening due to pavement repairs.

The westbound closure is from Wabasha Street and Marion Street and will start Friday at 10 p.m. and will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says the closure is weather permitting; check 511mn.org for updates.

The same section of I-94 will be closed again October 15-18 in the eastbound direction.

A detour route will be available for both weekend closures using Interstate 35E, Highway 36 and Highway 280.

MnDOT is advising drivers to plan ahead and allow extra time on the roads.

The closures are due to a larger construction project along I-94 and I-35E. For more information on the project, click here.

Meanwhile, work planned on Highway 7 eastbound between Excelsior and Deephaven has been postponed for the second week in a row.
