Water restrictions set in east metro amid ongoing drought conditions

St. Paul Regional Water Services (SPRWS) has announced watering restrictions due to ongoing drought conditions that continue to impact communities across Minnesota.

Watering restrictions apply to all SPRWS customers in St. Paul, Arden Hills, Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, Lilydale, Little Canada, Maplewood, Mendota, Mendota Heights, Roseville, and West St. Paul.

The restrictions went into effect Tuesday and include odd/even watering schedules as well as time restrictions.

Residents with odd-numbered addresses can water on odd-numbered days of the month. Residents with even-numbered addresses can water on even-numbered days of the month.

Outdoor watering must only take place before noon or after 6 p.m. on any day. Exceptions include commercial use of water for nurseries or community gardens; watering of new sold or seed but residents are asked to delay this type of planting until the fall or until drought conditions subside; and necessary tree watering with a dripping hose, bucket or tree watering bag.

SPRWS will begin enforcement of these restrictions starting Friday for non-compliance. Failure to follow the mandated restrictions will result in the following actions:

• First violation – Educational notice
• Second violation – Written warning
• Third violation – $50
• Fourth violation – $100
• Fifth and all additional violations – $150 plus water shut off to the property
  • (There is a $50 turn off fee once the water is shut off.)
