Walz activates National Guard for Pence visit
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Thursday activated the Minnesota National Guard to assist with security needs for Vice President Mike Pence’s campaign stop in the Twin Cities.
Walz said the guardsmen will assist local law enforcement following a request by the city of Minneapolis, where Pence is visiting Thursday afternoon.
"Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of Minnesotans, we have asked the Minnesota National Guard to assist in keeping the peace," Walz said.
The mobilization activates 100 soldiers and provides equipment and facilities to support public safety services, according to Walz.
