Vehicle hits 5 bicyclists in Blue Earth County, injuries range from minor to serious

Five bicyclists were hurt Friday morning after a vehicle collided with them on a county road south of Mapleton.

According to the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office, at about 7:40 a.m., the 30-year-old driver of a 2012 Chevrolet Volt was traveling south on County Road 7 when her vehicle collided with a group of bicyclists also traveling south.

The driver was unhurt; five bicyclists suffered injuries ranging from minor to serious. The sheriff’s office reports the bicyclist group consisted of one adult and seven juveniles.

The crash is under investigation, and the Minnesota State Patrol is assisting.
