UPDATE: Suspect in custody after New Brighton domestic incident turns into armed standoff, situation resolved

A domestic situation has turned into an armed standoff between a suspect and police Wednesday night in New Brighton.
According to the New Brighton Department of Public Safety, the situation near Long Lake Road and 16th Street NW in New Brighton has been resolved.
There is currently no further threat to the public and the suspect is also in custody, according to police.
Police will remain on the scene to conduct more investigations.
The incident started with police assisting a domestic assault victim to escape from a house. A suspect fired at police while they were assisting the victim.
No officers were injured and the victim is safe, according to the department.
The suspect was armed and barricaded in the residence. Individuals were asked to stay away from the area, those within one block were asked to shelter in place in the basement of their homes.
