UPDATE: Suspect arrested after early-morning shooting in South St. Paul leaves 1 dead, another injured

UPDATE: A man has been arrested in connection to an early-morning shooting Monday that left one person dead and another injured in South St. Paul.

According to South St. Paul Police, officers responded to the 600 block of 17th Avenue North at 3:58 a.m. on a report of a shooting. There, officers found two men suffering from traumatic injuries.

Police said lifesaving measures were provided to both men and they were then taken to a hospital. However, one of the victims was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other victim was in stable condition.

Witnesses reported seeing a man flee the scene before officers arrived, and police used K9s to search the area but the search was unsuccessful.

At about 7 a.m., the suspect was found in the lobby of a local motel and taken into custody, police said.

An investigation into the shooting is underway.

One person has died and another is injured after a shooting in South St. Paul early Monday morning.

There was a heavy police presence near 17th Avenue and Congress Street shortly after 4 a.m. Police later confirmed to a 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS crew at the scene that officers were investigating a shooting.

Police said two male victims were shot and one died. The other victim is in stable condition.

No arrests have been made at this time.
