A homicide investigation is underway in the Dayton’s Bluff area of St. Paul after a male victim was shot and killed Sunday night.

According to the St. Paul Police Department, the shooting happened near Seventh Street East and Mounds Boulevard, just west of the Metropolitan State University Campus.

Upon arrival, police reported finding an 18-year-old victim inside a vehicle in the area. He was taken to Regions Hospital where he later died.

Police initially said they believed the shooting was connected to a road rage incident but couldn’t say how the teen was involved. Later Monday, police provided an update, stating, "further investigation has ruled that out. It appears the shooting stemmed from a dispute that occurred earlier in the evening at another location."

The incident marks the third deadly shooting in less than 24 hours in St. Paul.

Police said, as of early Monday, no arrests have been made in any of the incidents.

St. Paul police are asking for the public’s help.

"What we really need, we need the public’s help," Sgt. Natalie Davis, with the St. Paul Police Department, said. "If you don’t want to call the police, call CrimeStoppers, talk to a clergy member, talk to a St. Paul city leader that you trust."

The shooting marks the 21st homicide in the city this year, police said.
