Police in Prescott, Wisconsin, say a small bomb was found inside a suspicious package Sunday.

According to the police department, at 9:55 a.m., officers were notified of a suspicious object located on Campbell Street near the Prescott Post Office.

The area had been evacuated for safety reasons while crews worked to figure out what the object was.

"While this object may look like a firework to some, there is substantial reason to believe it is not," Chief of Police Eric Michaels said.

Police said the St. Paul Bomb Squad arrived at 1:19 p.m., determined the device was a bomb, defused it and collected it for evidence.

Police say the area is now safe and anyone who was displaced can return.

A portion of the area remains blocked off for evidence gathering.

More information is expected to be released at a later time.
