UPDATE: Search for missing kayaker in New Brighton on pause, will resume in morning

Multiple crews were searching for a person who fell in the water and did not resurface while kayaking Saturday in New Brighton.

According to the New Brighton Department of Public Safety, the kayaker fell in the water on the east side of Long Lake and was not wearing a life jacket.

Personnel from New Brighton Public Safety, the Ramsey County and Hennepin County sheriff’s offices, the Roseville Fire Department, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter are carrying out the search.

Authorities say that boaters should stay clear of the active search zone, and everyone should avoid the beach area and boat launch so emergency crews can access the scene.

Just before 8 p.m. Saturday, crews paused the search due to nighttime conditions; the search will resume Sunday morning.
