UPDATE: Employee dies while working on maintenance project at Minnetonka water tower

UPDATE:
The city of Minnetonka confirms to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that an employee involved with a maintenance project on the city’s water tower has died.
According to the city, on Friday, firefighters and paramedics responded to a call of an injured construction worker at the Woodland Water Tower at about 12:26 p.m.. The tower was currently undergoing routine service and rehabilitation, the city said.
Crews worked to free the man from his harness and then tried for about a half-hour at the top of the tower to resuscitate the man but those efforts were not successful.
The city said initial reports indicate the death was accidental but Minnetonka Police and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office are now handling the scene.
An investigation is ongoing and no other details were immediately available.
Chopper 5 was over a Minnetonka water tower Friday afternoon as crews conducted a rescue.
Rescue crew members could be seen at the water tower’s base.
