UPDATE: Body found in Maple Grove business where fire broke out

UPDATE:

Authorities have confirmed to a KSTP reporter at the scene of a business fire in Maple Grove that a body has been found inside the building.

The fire at the business broke out Tuesday evening.

Fire officials in Maple Grove said two people were able to escape the building, however, one of the building’s occupants was unaccounted for.

One person remains unaccounted for following a fire at a Maple Grove business.

According to fire officials, around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, they received a call about three people inside a building fire on the 18400 block of Bass Lake Road.

Two people were rescued and one of them was taken to the hospital, the fire chief said.

Wednesday morning, fire officials said they are still unable to confirm the status of the missing person.

The building is a business that winterizes boats and RVs, according to fire officials. There were propane tanks inside the building, which caused several small explosions while crews were working to knock out the flames.

Maple Grove Fire Chief Tim Bush said the nature of the fire is making it difficult for investigators to sift through the debris and confirm whether the missing person is still in the building.

"Because of the nature of the way this type of fire rolls out, it leaves piles of debris that have to be moved methodically at a time. Kind of like stripping back layers of an onion," he said. "It’s time-consuming, and it takes a lot of effort."

The Minnesota State Fire Marshal and Hennepin County are investigating the incident.
