The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension canceled an Amber Alert after a missing 1-year-old child was found safe Saturday afternoon, along with the stolen vehicle he was taken in.

According to Minneapolis police spokesman John Elder, around 12:17 p.m., 1-year-old Da’merion Ni’mer White was in the back seat of a running Jeep Grand Cherokee when it was stolen from the 4200 block of Humboldt Avenue North in Minneapolis.

The child’s mother had started the car, put her child in the back seat and went inside to grab an item. When she came back out, the Jeep was gone, Elder said.

The BCA issued an Amber Alert for Da’merion shortly after.

Elder said Minneapolis police received word at 2:40 p.m. that Brooklyn Center police had found the stolen Jeep on the 5600 block of Brooklyn Boulevard with the child safe inside.

Police say the vehicle was left running at the entrance of a church and the suspect had fled the area. Police are working to process the car for forensic evidence. No arrests have been made.

Da’merion was taken to a medical facility for a standard procedure evaluation, Elder said.

No other information is immediately available.
