Travel increases as people plan spring break trips during pandemic

Airlines and other travel businesses are not expecting travel to bounce back to 2019 levels this year. However, many are encouraged by signs of an uptick in demand for spring break.

This comes as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends not traveling during the pandemic.

A Twin Cities travel expert says some airlines are offering special deals to get travelers back into the air.

"We’ve seen flights to Denver and Orlando for under $100 round trip," Maria Anderson, owner of Escape With Us Vacations said. "As far as Punta Cana or Cabo San Lucas or Costa Rica, we’ve seen round trip flights non-stop under $300 per person. That’s unheard of."

Prices for rental cars and hotels may be higher as companies try to make up for losses from last year.

The top spring break destinations for people from the Twin Cities this year include Florida, Cancun and the Dominican Republic.
