A tornado warning has expired in Beltrami, Cass and Itasca counties but a severe thunderstorm watch is still in place for several counties in northern Minnesota.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the following Minnesota counties: Aitkin, Becker, Beltrami, Big Stone, Carlton, Cass, Clay, Clearwater, Crow Wing, Douglas, Grant, Hubbard, Itasca, Kanabec, Mahnomen, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Norman, Otter Tail, Pine, Pope, St. Louis, Stevens, Todd, Traverse, Wadena and Wilkin. The watch is set to expire at midnight.

Large hail was also reported in parts of northern Minnesota.

KSTP Meteorologist Wren Clair says the storms in northern Minnesota will start to move south toward the Twin Cities metro and into western Wisconsin late into the evening and overnight hours. Clair says the storms will stay mostly north of Interstate 94 until midnight, particularly between Brainerd and Duluth.
