Temporary shelters closing, Ramsey County looks to use $6 million for shelter system

About a year ago, around $2.8 billion in federal funding was pumped into the state for COVID-19 relief.

Some of that was used to expand shelter beds during the pandemic, but now those funds are drying up. Ramsey County has a plan that could help the hundreds of homeless already camped out here on the river.

Minnesota leaders are proposing using $6 million more of the state’s budget for the shelter system.

Those who work with people facing homelessness are hoping the funding comes through.
