Teen dies, man injured in Cass County boat crash

Authorities say a girl is dead and a man is recovering from injuries after a boat crash Sunday night on Ten Mile Lake.

According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the lake in rural Hackensack around 10 p.m.

When deputies, arrived, they found a 50-year-old man of Horace, North Dakota, had been traveling on the lake near the shore when it had possibly hit something either on, or near, the shoreline, causing the boat to stop abruptly.

A passenger, identified by the sheriff’s office as a 13-year-old girl from Motley, Minnesota, was injured after being thrown forward in the boat. She later died despite lifesaving efforts from family members and first responders.

An autopsy will be done by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The sheriff’s office reports the man driving the boat was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
