A multi-million-dollar redevelopment project in St. Paul is a step closer to becoming a reality.
Crews on Wednesday began tearing down Big Top Liquors in the Midway Shopping Center, which was looted and burned last year following the death of George Floyd.
The demo is part of the $200 million United Villages at Midway redevelopment project.
Minnesota United FC owner Bill McGuire received the city’s approval for the 32-acre project next to Allianz Field.
Plans call for a large mixed-use housing, office, retail and hotel complex on the site.
Businesses owners along University Avenue hope to the project will help the Midway neighborhood.
"It’s going to bring change to the area," said Tim Wilson, owner of Urban Music Lights. "It’s finally going to bring some people to the area. Hopefully we get some businesses built up. We can get some action going."
