Police in St. Paul are investigating a fatal shooting that happened Monday night.

According to the St. Paul Police Department, officers were called just before 7 p.m. on the report of shooting on the 300 block of Larpenteur Avenue East.

When officers arrived, they found a man inside a vehicle who suffered an apparent gunshot wound. The man was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers staged a second scene on the 100 block of Larpenteur Avenue West. Police are investigating whether the second location is connected to the homicide.

Police closed the road at Rice Street and Larpenteur Avenue due to the investigation.

"Our homicide investigators are working hard to determine who was responsible and what are the circumstances that led to this man’s death," Sgt. Mike Ernster said.

Police collected evidence and attempted to connect with any witnesses as they work to solve the city’s 33rd homicide of this year, which is the highest number of homicides in the past 25 years. Police said the city’s highest-recorded number of homicides is 34.
