St. Paul Police identify victim of Saturday morning homicide

Police have identified the victim of an early Saturday morning shooting in St. Paul.

St. Paul Police said 23-year-old Nia A. Black, of Coon Rapids, was killed in the shooting.

No arrests had been made as of Monday morning.

Police asked anyone with information to call 651-266-5650.

According to police, at 1 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Larpenteur Avenue West on a report of a large fight in the parking lot of a business. While officers were on the way, they received multiple 911 calls reporting shots were fired at the same location. Upon their arrival at the scene, officers found vehicles leaving the scene but no one injured.

A short time later, Ramsey County deputies saw a car traveling at a high rate on Rice Street at Owasso Boulevard and believed it was a vehicle that may have been involved in the incident on Larpenteur Avenue. After stopping the vehicle, they found Black suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Deputies called for paramedics but once they had arrived, they pronounced her dead at the scene.

The investigation remains active.

5 EYEWITNESS NEWS spoke to Nia Black's mother, Latanya Black about the crime.  

"People just chased them down and just started shooting" Black said. "I pray to God there wasn't any pain and that she didn't suffer.I pray to God there wasn't any pain and that she didn't suffer. The parking lot was full. Somebody out there has the tape. Somebody seen something. Somebody knows something."
