School districts, teacher unions to hold mediation session Tuesday

Both the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers and the St. Paul Federation of Educators are expected to hold mediation sessions with their respective school districts Tuesday.

Last week, members of both unions voted to authorize a strike, but neither has set a strike date yet.

Once they do, there’s a 10-day window to try to reach an agreement.

Officials with Minneapolis and St. Paul public schools, as well as the teachers unions, say they will continue to work to negotiate a contract.

Meanwhile, about 200 Minneapolis Public Schools food service workers could also go on strike.

As previously reported, those workers are asking for higher pay, as well as other demands.
