St. Louis Park police are offering a $5,000 reward for information regarding recent attempted carjackings and a robbery.
Thursday, the St. Louis Park Police Department announced the reward for information that would assist with the apprehension and conviction of suspects in three incidents.
On Nov. 29, there was an attempted carjacking at Bridgewater Bank in the 4000 block of Excelsior Boulevard at about 8 p.m. According to police, three juvenile boys threatened to have a gun and tried to demand the victim’s car keys, but the victim was able to run back to the bank. Police believe the victim was followed into the parking lot. The suspects, who the victim described as young Somali males, fled in a black Dodge Durango.
On Monday, a woman was robbed while in the parking lot of Lunds & Byerlys in the 3000 block of Park Center Boulevard at 5:30 p.m., police said. She was not injured, but suspects took her purse. The suspect left the scene in a light-colored SUV. Police said that stolen credit cards from the purse were attempted to be used in Richfield and "elsewhere." The incident — suspect and vehicle included — was captured on surveillance video.
On Thursday at 3:15 p.m., police responded to an attempted carjacking at the same Lunds & Byerlys as the Monday robbery. Police said suspects tried to wrestle a man out of a vehicle. The man suffered minor injuries and the suspects fled in a light-colored SUV.
St. Louis Park police are working with other metro police departments to identify suspects and investigate the incidents, according to a press release. They believe the suspects have been involved in other crimes around the metro but specified that they don’t believe the incidents are connected to carjackings in the Fern Hill neighborhood of St. Louis Park during the Thanksgiving weekend.
Anyone with information about the incidents is encouraged to call the St. Louis Park Police Department at 952-924-2618 or CrimeStoppers at 800-222-8477 or submit a tip online here.
Edina police are also investigating an attempted carjacking at a nearby Lunds & Byerlys Thursday, in which three people were injured. It is unknown whether this incident was related to those in St. Louis Park.
