St. Anthony man charged with murder in father’s death to face mental health evaluation
A St. Anthony man charged with murder in connection with a December 2021 case is set to face a mental health evaluation, according to a court update Thursday.
Rodney Berg Christopherson, 47, was charged in December with second-degree murder with intent after his father was found bludgeoned and stabbed to death in a home.
Medics who encountered Christopherson at the scene described him as “manic.”
A criminal complaint filed at the time stated Christopherson’s brother told police Christopherson had a schizophrenia diagnosis and had been living with his father. The brother mentioned he thought Christopherson had been taking medication corresponding with his diagnosis.
According to the court update, Christopherson faces an evaluation for mental illness or cognitive impairment. His next hearing date is June 9 and a trial is currently set to start on Oct. 24.
