Semi topples onto St. Croix embankment, driver extricated
A semi-truck crash blocked traffic on Interstate 94 near the St. Croix River Bridge just after 4 p.m. Saturday.
KSTP crews on scene saw that the truck went through gates onto the river embankment and stopped just shy of the iced-over water.
Traffic management cameras showed fire crews, police, a tow truck and other emergency personnel stopped on the side of the road responding to the situation.
Later in the evening, Wisconsin State Patrol shared that the driver and sole occupant, 22-year-old Huzaifa Mahad Soleman of Minneapolis, was taken to Regions Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The State Patrol said that the tractor-trailer was headed westbound on I-94 when it left the road and rolled down into the embankment. The driver did require extrication to be removed from the cab.
The incident is under investigation.
St. Croix Sheriff’s Department, Hudson Police, Lake View Medical and Hudson fire crews also responded to the scene.
