UPDATE: Suspect shoots at deputy during pursuit on I-94 in Minneapolis

UPDATE: The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy was shot at during a pursuit on Interstate 94 overnight.

The incident began when Brooklyn Center police responded to reports of an armed burglary around 2:30 a.m. Thursday in the 1100 block of 57th Avenue North.

A Hennepin County deputy then spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. That’s when someone inside the suspect vehicle shot at the pursuing deputy.

The pursuit ended, and the deputy’s squad car was found to have been struck by gunfire.

The deputy was not injured, and no shots were fired by law enforcement.

PREVIOUS REPORT: Several lanes of I-94 were shut down briefly in Minneapolis overnight Thursday for a police investigation.

Law enforcement could be seen on the roadway with flashlights near the Lowry Avenue exit around 3 a.m., and appeared to be searching the area.

Less than 30 minutes earlier, a Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) traffic management camera spotted what appeared to be a squad car chasing another vehicle in that area, on southbound I-94 through downtown.
