Roseville is thanking those who serve and protect with some extra cash in their paycheck.

The city voted to give firefighters and police officers $2,000 COVID-19 bonuses.

Roseville is using some of the city’s federal COVID-19 aid for the bonuses.

The bonuses recognize firefighters’ and police officers’ service from the early days of the pandemic.

"Many of us were able to work from home are police officers and firefighters had to be out there serving the community, not just being out in the community actually dealing with active COVID cases," Roseville City Manager Patrick Trudgeon said. "They do great service every single day but this was an ability for us to give some special recognition to them."

The COVID bonuses come at a time when cities are struggling to recruit and retain firefighters and police officers.
