Rain soaked parts of the state Thursday, which Chief Meteorologist Ken Barlow said is an improvement amid drought conditions.

Barlow said the metro area saw rainfall totals of more than an inch.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), as of Friday morning, rainfall totaled about 1.92 inches in Minneapolis and 2.73 inches in St. Paul.

Southern parts of the state saw more than 2 inches of rain and northern parts of the state saw a half-inch of rain or less, according to the NWS.

Additional rainfall total data via the NWS can be found here.

Looking ahead, Barlow said rain is expected to continue through Friday. Temperatures will remain in the 70s Friday and are expected to jump into the 80s on Saturday.

Warmer air and high humidity this weekend are expected to contribute to a potential severe weather threat, Barlow said.
