Protesters gather in downtown Minneapolis as jury begins deliberations in Chauvin trial
Monday evening, protesters gathered in downtown Minneapolis as the jury in the Derek Chauvin Trial began its first day of deliberations.
The protesters gathered at the Hennepin County Government Center before marching through downtown calling for a conviction of Chauvin, the former officer charged in the death of George Floyd.
Protesters also called for changes to policing and public safety.
"When I come here, I want to feel safe, I don’t want to feel, like, scared every time I get pulled over, every time I have an encounter with the police," one protester said. "And it shouldn’t be happening just because I’m Black.
According to KSTP’s Ben Henry, the Rev. Jesse Jackson spoke to the protesters who gathered in downtown Minneapolis.
