Proposed gravel pit on St. Croix County farm creating controversy

A controversy is growing on one western Wisconsin farm.

A company wants to start mining limestone on farmland in St. Croix County south of Roberts near County Road SS and Coulee Trail.

Neighbors have rallied together to try and stop the gravel pit.

"I can’t imagine the dynamite and all the dust in the air," neighbor Josh Cooan said.

Farmer Kevin Lubich owns the land and says the company would eventually restore the gravel pit back to farmland but he doesn’t know how long that would take.

"I didn’t want to wreck the land," Lubich said. "I mean my grandpa would roll over in his grave."

The St. Croix County Board will hold a meeting on Thursday to consider rezoning the land.
