Police say a St. Paul man has died after he reported being assaulted last week.
According to police, 51-year-old Carlos Venceslado Rocha reported he was assaulted in his apartment building, located on the 600 block of Snelling Avenue North, on Dec. 20.
Officers and medics responded to the scene and spoke with Rocha, but he wasn’t hospitalized.
A check on Rocha was done on Monday and members of the city’s fire department found him dead in his apartment.
An autopsy then determined he died due to injuries he received during the reported assault.
So far, no one is in custody. Anyone with information is asked to call 651-266-5650.
Police say they’re still working to figure out what led up to the assault, and identify a suspect. As of Wednesday, they said they don’t believe it was a random incident, and said there’s no immediate threat to the public.
According to police, Rocha’s death is the 38th homicide in the city this year.
