Police seek suspect who painted city camera ahead of deadly Uptown crash

Police in Minneapolis are asking for the public’s help to identify a person who painted a city-owned camera near Lake Street West and Girard Avenue South.

According to Minneapolis Police, the suspect climbed a pole and spray-painted the camera at about 8:34 p.m. on Sunday, not long before a crash that killed Deona Knajdek and injured three others.

Had the camera not been spray-painted, it could have offered evidence for prosecutors to use against the driver who hit Knajdek, police said.

Anyone with information that could help officers identify the person who spray-painted the camera is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
