Police officer shoots, kills person in Renville County
A police officer in Olivia, Minnesota, shot and killed an armed person during an "altercation" early Sunday morning, a city official said.
According to a news release from Olivia City Administrator Dan Coughlin, an officer from the Olivia Police Department was confronted by a person who had a weapon around 2:20 a.m. in an alley near the 800 block of Lincoln Avenue. An "altercation" ensued, and the officer ended up shooting the person.
The person who was shot was taken to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead, the release states.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the shooting, and the officer involved in the incident has been placed on standard administrative leave.
