Police: Man hurt in St. Paul stabbing, vehicle stolen from good Samaritan who pulled over to help

Police are investigating two separate cases stemming from a reported stabbing at a St. Paul intersection Tuesday night.

Police were at the scene near University Avenue West and North Victoria Street at about 11 p.m. Tuesday. In an update Wednesday morning, St. Paul police reported officers were called to the intersection on a report of an aggravated assault.

When officers arrived, they found a 31-year-old man with a cut to the neck. Officers called medics to the scene. Medics transported the man to Regions Hospital. According to police, the man’s injuries were initially life-threatening but his condition stabilized after surgery.

The man told authorities he was in a physical altercation with another man before the reported stabbing.

Meanwhile, 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS confirmed with St. Paul police that while officers were investigating the stabbing, a bystander told police his vehicle was stolen while he was trying to help the man hurt in the reported stabbing.

The man told police he had pulled over to help and left his car running while it was parked. He told police that as he was helping, a person got into his vehicle, hit him with the vehicle, and then drove off. Police said the man hit by his stolen vehicle was not seriously hurt.

Police said no arrests had been made in either case as of Wednesday afternoon.
